still lifes

Based on the way fabric is sewn together like a quilt with the piping ( i dont sew and i had to look that up) I remember when i was at the austin art museum a few years ago looking at these huge collage like quilts made by this woman who collected old jeans and other fabric she could find, i am playing off this with "the still life" incorporated.I did however learn that this has been done before but i would like to take it to another level and direction....this is oil on canvas 36x48 some of the objects were found in my sister's kitchen.

black crows ( what goes on in a artists mind)

latest painting of black  crows that i spotted in a tree (always remember to look up a friend once said) the gold stripes represent light (healing light for the viewer so im told and i would like to think this is true) it is oil on canvas 30x40 .I was listening to music to get out of my head and not think about the importance or lack of why i do what i do and does it even matter ...?!the music was kim ritchey (her bittersweet cd) elvis costello, bryan ferry(frantic) and bryan ferry with roxy music (avalon) then some sally taylor and neil young back and forth back and forth until they were singing harmony together in my head, they sounded great.sally recorded a song called "give me the strength" pure voice no tricks and kind with a real fine piano by jeremy lawton, maybe neil young could do a acoustic of this, would be interesting....that is what goes on in my head while painting.

Then i started thinking about the environment....politician's ....buddist practices along with seeing reality......hmmmm so much to think about but love it none the less. have been studying with brian stalin...his online reiki course is wonderful.

"See You Soon"

"See You Soon" 36 x 18 oil on canvas experimenting with overglazes to represent a feeling of time and the movement of light.  I painted this outside in the town of Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY, by memory, as a guest artist for Think Long Island First right before hurricane Sandy (by the way, which reminds me, a new movie called Identity Thief, starring Jason Bateman as Sandy, is coming out soon and it looks hilarious - unlike the hurricane, of course).  The photo of me was taken in the early 90's at the Rose Cafe' in Venice Beach, CA.  I did not paint the rose behind me.  I really miss California and look forward to painting the waves of the West Coast soon and to meeting up with some old friends there.
